Yarra river bellbird park

Image
A casual paddle today from bellbird park to Fairfield boat house with Vatsal heading upstream along the Yarra river. The day was cloudy and with some rain but no wind which kept things reasonable but wet The bats were plentiful, with seemingly more than usual in the trees.  The water levels were up from recent rains and a lot of junk floating in the river as a result. Nice coffee and the return journey was a lot quicker with the current running due to recent rains. Wildlife was out and about, with very little humans around I think helped. Waiting out a rain shower under the eastern freeway, luckily only a couple occurred on the paddle up The flying fox colony is always a bit different  The boathouse. With the river up the normal docking was underwater but always a great spot to enjoy a coffee break.

Kismet to Yarrawonga - Murray River

Image
4 Day 95 klm Kayak from Kismet to Yarrawonga on the Murray River The trip team was Steven Masters , Martin Smith and myself. The orginal plan had been for 5 days and finishing at the Mulawa club,  due to higher river flows and slightly longer paddling times, the speed of the trip was quickier than planned with the final day being called early due to conditions on the lake with wind picking up. Camping was free camping on the river bank which worked well, night two's spot was a muddy bank though which detracted a bit , generally there are a number of sites you can use, and a lot of the sandy beaches are found on the inside turn of tigher bends, remebering the rules that you can not camp on the NSW side due to different ownership laws. (Victoria is crown land for generally the first 60 metres from the bank) We used the Boiling Down creek as a shortcut on day 2 , this was a great diversion from a placid river paddle with restrictions and submerged obstacles , not a big issue given the...

Yarra River from Bellbird Park

Yarra River upstream from Bellbird Park past fairfield boat house, With Steve and Martin. Cut short a little bit by Rain and changing conditions, but nice coffee catchup break. Good going past the flying foxes and further up from the fairfield boat house, which looks interesting.

Yarra - Studley Park to Fairfield Boat House

Great Kayak with Steve and Martin  Launching just down from Studley park and then heading upstream to Fairfield Boat house and return. all up around 10klm, pleasant paddling with no obstructions or big current. passing the Flying Foxes certainly added a bit of interest to the paddle.

Wonga Park with Steve.

Very nice Kayak with Steve on the Yarra river ,  starting from the lower homestead road carpark and  heading up river for around 5.6 klm. The river is at times narrower with a number of fallen trees to dodge around. funny enough the amount of bird and animal llife was a lot less than last week during the hot days. The journey map , a nice 11.1 klm 2:54 hrs with breaks incl   Steve the paddle master!

Wonga Park - Lower Homestead carpark

A solo kayak on the Yarra ,  nice day with little wind and mid 20's temp. a more isolated park of the river , lots of ducks with chicks on the banks , a few trees to dodge but overall a very easy 10klm paddle.
